The Institute has a long history of applying dreaming and imagery techniques to the creative process. We’ve worked with creative professionals in numerous fashions, from 1:1 work to develop projects, group work to incubate ideas and develop fluid creative conversations, to performing arts foundations in the role of teaching embodied approaches to creativity, developing creative potential, and much more.
At the Institute, we look at the creative process as occurring through specific phases, and in these phases there are specific blocks that the creative person can encounter. The dreaming work can be applied to enlarge the range of creative fluidity and fluency, gain new perspectives, overcome blocks, and as “research” for idea-generation, among other benefits.
The creative process is an encounter with mystery; in inspired moments we enter the unknown and encounter unexplored aspects of the self. Dreaming and imagery is also a tool for engaging us in this place of revelation, where we access and develop our own intuitive, creating language.
While we work with creative professionals in all our classes, the DYW Artist Lab is a special program aimed at the creative professional. This includes both those who have a specific project – maybe it is for a grant that is already in place, a book proposal that has been accepted, a scheduled exposition – and those in the exploratory phase, such as with a desire to do a one-person show, a book idea, something that is asking to be called forth and said from within.
In this Introduction to Dreaming, Imagery, and the Creative process workshop we will introduce you to the work we do around creativity, give you a feel for the work by engaging in some exercises, and answer questions you may have about which class can support you best, including the Artist Lab.
