IIDI’s DYW Artist Lab applies the dreamwork approach to any creative process.
Projects can be looked at as dreams. A project can be an artistic endeavor, writing a business plan for an entrepreneurship, designing a new home, planning a career switch, or anything that involves creating in any form. Project Dreaming using the dreamwork rubric taught at the Institute to explore projects from multiple perspectives, including that of our sensory body. In this way, we receive insights that we would have missed from a solely linear viewpoint.
In the Project Dreaming class, participants present their current project as a dream to be worked with by group participants who step in as Secondary Dreamers. Throughout the class we incorporate somatic and imagery exercises that create a setting of body presence and perception.
The structure of our work with dreams provides a productive and creative container to gain invaluable insights and new perspectives on any project. In addition, areas where you are blocked, or your project is restricted or stagnant, will become revealed. The necessity of where to intervene and how to overcome the block becomes apparent. This will open the project back out into creative flow.
In the weeks your own project is not worked with by the group you will become a Secondary Dreamer for the projects of others. Not only does this continue to spark ideas, it develops a supportive community and offers new and various perspectives.
