The DYW ARTIST LAB is part of IIDI‘s commitment to finding creative solutions to social and global challenges through communal dreaming. Changing the image changes the whole system. Accessing our creative wellspring and Great Dreaming we tap into healing images that arise outside of pattern, and we begin to envision new realities for ourselves and for our world. Artists have a particular impact on the communal dream through their work. We support artists through the dreaming practice to access their Great Dreams, and to bring these new visions to tangible form with the aim of transforming the communal dream of humanity.
The DYW Artist Lab consists of four modules: INSIGHT, IMAGE, FORM and MANIFESTATION, which culminate in BECOMING, integrating the artistic project into your life and into the life of your community. Through the program you will learn how to access your creative wellspring to catch the spark of idea, form it, and bring it to tangible manifestation. Through the deep inner work of the practices you will develop your own inner creative potential and Self.
The 2023 – 2024 Cohort dates run August 2023 – August 2024.
Participants limited to 16; Application deadline 1 May 2023
Below is an overview – please click the curriculum tab for full details.
MODULE ONE: INSIGHT
14 – 18 August 2023
In Person 5 days // DOCK11 Eden Berlin
The initial spark of creativity is something received: Insight. Receiving insight entails making space, emptying the self of preconceived ideas, judgments, evaluations, and entering the space of dreaming and revelation. Module One: Insight begins the journey. Through dreaming, imagery, movement practices informed by the dreaming work, and IIDI’s method of applying dreaming work to ideas and projects, we meet together in a communal space to clear, dream, and receive the insight of creative sparks.
MODULE TWO: IMAGE
Mid-Oct – 2 day weekend online
Insight is often perceived as an impulse, movement, feeling, or a momentary flash. From here, it must be peered into, brought into vision. Using the same tools introduced in the first module, Module Two: Image develops the initial insight of the project, moving you deeper into the creative process, and including clearing any blocks that may arrive that impede the work of seeing, and allowing the project to reveal itself.
MODULE THREE: FORM
February 2024 – 2 day online weekend “round table”
From image we create form; the first tangible beginnings of the project. Like clay in our hands, we let our imagination and dreaming play with the project from multiple perspectives, angles, and expressions. We let it speak – what does it say to us? Module Three: FORM continues the work of developing both project and creator. We include in this module practices stemming from the fields of contemporary dance and visual arts to articulate the project, and support creative work with future projects.
MODULE FOUR: MANIFESTATION
May 2024 – 2 day weekend online
From form, a project comes into being. Manifesting a project entails not only the ‘final stage’ of the creator’s touch, it also involves letting go, and letting it continue to speak, flow, shape-shift, move, and be moved. How do we know when a project is finished? How do we open ourselves to releasing it to be in front of the eyes of Other? How do we bring it to community? In our last Module: Manifestation we work with bringing projects to completion, preparing both artist and project for its’ last – and therefore first – chapter of becoming.
BECOMING
August 2024 – 2 day in person (location and dates TBD)
In our last meeting, the project and artist ‘become’: artist by presenting the Self that has brought the project to being, and the project by finding its life in the eyes of the receiver. We meet to celebrate becoming together, experiencing how our projects illuminate each of us and move the community. This is both the closing of a chapter and the beginning of a new creative intention.
